This is a warm, fascinating, above all intelligent book. I read it at a sitting - the mixture of personal anecdotes, practical exercises and well-expressed information about alchemy is irresistible. How-to books can be infuriating: who is this high-handed person telling me how to live? But Cherry Gilchrist comes clean with us, tells us about her own experiences, mistakes,epiphanies, heartbreaks, so that we know she is one of us, not a lofty guru. I've always found alchemy mystifying, but, after reading this book I feel I have the essence of it. And the book cheered me up. At a tricky moment in my own life, it gave me guidance and hope, of a real not illusory sort. A great book to give a friend at a crossroads in her or his life - takes you to the top of the mountain and shows you the big picture. Inspiring but sensible. Do read it.
